After completing your application, you will be asked to provide by fax or email a copy of your business' registration certificate and a void cheque. The void cheque will be used to confirm your bank account's information, which will receive daily deposits of your processed funds.

Why does a merchant account have to be underwritten?

In the event that your business closes or cannot deliver the products/services already paid by your customers, the processor is responsible for reimbursing the customers on behalf of the merchant. This is why Helcim's underwriting team must approve each merchant applying for a Visa/MasterCard merchant account.

Is a credit check performed?

Yes, a basic personal credit check is performed on each applicant. Federal law requires all financial institutions and money services business to obtain, verify, and record information that identifies each person who opens an account.

Do I need a perfect credit score to be approved?

We understand that many of our applications are new business owners and young entrepreneurs with limited credit history. Your credit score is only one of many factors considered by our underwriting team. Helcim's approval process is one of the easiest and most flexible in Canada.

How long does it take to apply?

Our average application turnaround is 2 business days, with most applicants receiving their new account login information within 24 hours.

What happens once I'm approved?

Once your merchant account is approved, your Helcim representative will provide you with the login information for your platform and train you on how to perform transactions. You can then start processing credit card payments right away. Retail merchants will have their equipment delivered via FedEx priority overnight and will also receive a standard welcome package, including Visa, MasterCard and Interac Debit window stickers.
